Using Social Networking For Your Home Business

Lots of people start a home business then join social networking with the motive of purely making more money. There are however, many people trying to build Internet businesses who use social networking as a marketing tool.

You can use social networking to have fun, make money or both!. Here are a few ways you can do this:-

1. I would suggest joining just a few sites and use those to develop your own identity online. Many Internet Marketers join too many sites and this is a mistake because you will not get the benefit out of any of them.

A much better strategy is to join a few sites starting with the likes of Facebook and Twitter and work hard at developing those as two large social markets of your own.

By making your social networking efforts as personal as possible you will eventually get to know more people on a personal level and make more money at the same time.
These are great sites to develop an identity that describes who you are, what your personal values are, what products you promote, and so on.

2. Creating an online profile is very important and you should spend as much time as required on this. For example with Twitter you get to choose a screen name. If you have a home business idea then you can choose a name that draws attention to the type of business you are in. If your aim is to brand yourself then use your name and a picture that is memorable.

Ultimately by spending a little bit of extra time creating your profile and screen name you can get more people to click through to your website. If the product is what you're trying to brand then customize it and make it more personable to your viewers

3. A great idea especially if you have a home business idea is to start your own group. For example if you look at Facebook there are groups for various things such as businesses, products and celebrities so that anyone can join a group and become a fan on it.

You can also have interactive activities that make it more fun to be in the group.
By getting your own group set up you can create an identity that will help increase the number of members belonging to it.

A certain percentage of people who join your group will check out what you are doing to make money online because they are essentially a captive audience having joined your group.

If you consistently work at social networking it can pay you back many times over. These are just a few simple ideas of how you can use social networking to make money with your home business or to use just for fun.

Summary: Not everyone gets involved with social networking sites with the ulterior motive of making more money. There are many people who are trying to build Internet businesses and use social networking as a marketing tool. Here are a few ideas on using social networking to make money, to have fun, or both!

Hi Mal

Yes, social networking has become one of the best ways of marketing these days. Your advice is very good - especially about not joining too many and getting involved in groups.

It's true, you can't go wrong utilizing social networking, regardless if it's on a business or personal level.

If your goal is to increase your profits or just make new friends, taking the time to 'build' relationships is valuable.

Good points on social networking. Just so happens I have been in a series by Kristin D. on how to use social sites to build your business. She recommends just 4 and has a video series detailing the procedure.

Great post Mal

Hi, Mal:

This is an excellent intro and overview for Social Networking! Great info to help guide any home business enthusiast. I especially like your suggestion to join just a few sites and focus on them. A person can only do so much, so what you do, you might as well do it well. Focus is the key. Thanks for the info, Mal.

Hi Mal,

You make some great points. I am just starting to use social networking. Joining a minimum of sites makes sense and I will try it. Thanks.
